First of all, I want it to be known that I am a supplement snob. I have spent many years researching nutrition, and even more time researching how to properly fuel my body correctly for athletic purposes. Many times, my stomach is sensitive to ingredients and other supplements tend to have additional ingredients that I actively avoid in my diet.
That being said, I absolutely love MESTRENGTH! I do not like added sugar in my electrolytes, and avoid drinks that are usually labeled as “sports drinks”. MESTRENGTH contains electrolytes for proper hydration and a small amount of creatine to assist with muscle recovery.
Here are the ingredients included in MESTRENGTH powder: ingredients (per serving): Calcium (30mg), Phosphorus (15mg), Magnesium (15mg), Sodium (60mg), Potassium (30mg), Creatine Monohydrate (5g), Citric Acid, Natural Flavor, Vegetable and Fruit Juice (for color), and Stevia (a calorie free plant based sweetener).
On the MESTRENGTH website, I located a chart that compares this product to various other sport drink options. I have included it below:
My personal preference is that I am not adding large amounts of calories, sugar, caffeine and artificial chemicals to my body in order to attempt to hydrate or recover. I tend to stick with simple ingredients, that I am familiar with. MESTRENGTH has no calories, no sugar, no artificial ingredients and no caffeine.
I have used it right before working out, as well as right after completing a workout. I have not tried to use it while working out, as I stick with plain water while working out.
I have noticed a few differences since adding MESTRENGTH to my routine. I am no longer famished and eating every single thing in the house after my long runs or more intense workouts. I am also a lot less sore after working out.
Another great thing about MESTRENGTH is it is pretty darn tasty, and does not have a weird after taste like some electrolyte supplements. The kiwi strawberry is my absolute favorite of all the flavors, though none of them are bad (in my opinion).
Some people are concerned about adding Creatine to their routine, however, a bit of research will show how a small amount of Creatine can help develop lean muscles and assist with muscle recovery. More and more research is supporting this point of view, and I was actually actively looking for a high quality Creatine supplement when I found my answer in MESTRENGTH.
I highly recommend MESTRENGTH to anyone who is active, working out, training, etc. It’s a great product, and it truly makes a difference.

Time for another product review! This time we are trying out a new hydration product!
MESTRENGTH is a creatine infused, zero calorie, zero sugar, and zero artificial hydration mix for your pre and post workout needs!
"Wait isn't creatine for meatheads trying to build gimongous muscles?"
Sometimes, yes. In this case no! Here's what they say about it:
"Muscle cells require a chemical called Adenosine Triphospate (ATP) as a source of energy and creatine is used by the body to create ATP. Therefore, MESTRENGTH helps muscles to build and replenish their supply of ATP, providing them with the energy needed for prolonged activity. The end result? Increased muscle energy."
So since it's just a little bit you get all the benefits of the muscle repair without the bulk. With only 5g per serving, this is aimed at repairing your muscles!
Also, by using stevia, a calorie free sugar replacement, your intestines don't have to work as hard to absorb the sugar. It's all about balancing those electrolytes!
So enough about the science, how do they taste?
They are pretty gosh darn delicious!
I got to try out all five flavors, fruit punch, grape, lemon lime, orange, and kiwi strawberry!
The flavors were tasty and not too sweet, they were actually pretty tart. The fruit punch tasted like sour patch kids and all the flavors had a bit of a tartness too them so you won't feel overwhelmed by sweet!
My two most favorite flavors were fruit punch and lemon lime. They were both a little tart and dissolved well!
Orange was tasty but I ended up having some flecks of orange in there which seemed weird to me.
If you are looking for a calorie replacement drink, this isn't it. But if you are looking for a great pre or post workout drink to hydrate and balance your electolytes, I highly recommend this! The science speaks to the advantage of this product and it's tasssssttyy! This is going to be on my short list of products to reorder!

""I really like the taste! No after-taste and it really quenched my thirst"
"I freakin' love MeStrength"
"In summary: I freakin' love MeStrength. This stuff WORKS. Remember how I said I was skeptical about being able to see actual differences in just five packets? I was wrong. My body took a pounding the past few days, and though my joints are a little stiff in the cold weather, my muscles actually feel incredible. That extra creatine boost is fantastic and really does the trick"
"It tastes so good, that I will probably use it more regularly as I get closer to the Dopey Challenge races"
MESTRENGTH is a new sports drink that has zero calories, zero sugar, 5 electrolytes and 5 grams of creatine to help maintain lean muscle mass. From a nutrient standpoint this drink is phenomenal! The absolute best part about it is absolutely no sugar and no calories. This isn't some sports drink loaded with random ingredients that serves no purpose other than to sound like it's got a million health benefits. This drink keeps it simple but still has nutritional benefits. This drink isn't going to kill your diet and you don't have to do anything crazy with it, you simply add it to water and drink it before, during or after your workout.
As far as taste goes I like the orange the most, and Kassia likes grape the best. They're all pretty good, they are a little on the tart side, Kassia likes it mixed with about 24 oz. of water and I like it with about 18 oz. of water.

The problem with hydration
October 11, 2015
Disclaimer: I received Mestrength electrolyte drink mix to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!"
I am deep into training for the Dopey Challenge and one issue that I face is hydration on long runs. I struggle between the decision of whether to drink water or some type of electrolyte replacement. While I love water, I tend to get cramps from drinking it. I also seems to drink it more often which leads to frequent bathroom breaks and of course, cramps. I like electrolyte replacements, such as sports drinks, but after a while the sugar makes my mouth feel weird.
So I can continue to find the best hydration product, I was excited for the opportunity to try Mestrength (http://www.mestrength.com/). Mestrength contains electrolytes and creatine (5g) and has no carbs or calories. Initially, I was skeptical because I do not like the flavor of most electrolyte products, including sports drinks. I tried three Mestrength flavors: lemon lime, strawberry kiwi, and fruit punch.
Mixing it up
The product comes in a small package that you mix with 16.9-20 oz of water. It dissolves very quickly. The strawberry kiwi flavor smelled so good I almost wanted to eat the dry powder out the pack. Thankfully, I followed directions and mixed it with water.
For a product that doesn't have sugar, it was sweet and tasted really good. I didn't have to dilute it or mix it with another product to enhance the flavor. This was exciting and made trying the product enjoyable.
I used the product before and after my runs. I really enjoyed the flavor and it worked well to replenish my electrolytes after running. It taste so good, that I will probably use it more regularly as I get closer to the Dopey Challenge races so that the electrolyte loss isn't so great as the training gets more challenging.
I really enjoyed Mestrength electrolyte drink and I will use it for my long training runs. It tastes great and doesn't leave that sugary feels in your mouth like drinking sports drinks.
"It’s products like this that really exemplify how preparing for a run is just as important as the run itself"
"I’m pretty sure that I’ve grown up with the same hydration staples as everyone else: sports drinks and water.
More importantly, I cramp very easily, so I tend to turn to sports drinks for electrolytes. They’re also pretty easy to come by, which makes them convenient for me.
However, I’m always looking for a better option for my hydration needs.
Fellow runners had spoken to me about MeStrength, but I had never tried it. When MeStrength reached out to me to try a few samples to review, I was more than willing and very excited."
"For just about two weeks I’ve been incorporating MeStrength into my pre-run routine and I think it has been going very well. I’m not cramping during my runs and find myself feeling less dehydrated while running. It’s products like this that really exemplify how preparing for a run is just as important as the run itself.
My recoveries seem to be easier on my calves, too (where I tend to cramp most).
This is definitely an easy improvement to make to my running routine and one I’m glad I had the opportunity to try."
"After a month of trying out MeStrength, I have become a fan"
"Training in Florida is a double edged sword – while we do have the awesome benefit of training through the winter (all 2-3 weeks of it!) in moderate temperatures, the weather changes right before we know it and we’re hitting 80 degree days while the rest of the country is barely thawing out.
With these sort of conditions, it’s important to not only find the right products and dosing to meet your personal hydration needs, but also, to discover how nutrition can be optimized to reach desired results – which is why I was so excited to try out a new-to-me supplement MESTRENGTH!
Before receiving it as a part of my BibRavePro ambassadorship, I admittedly had never heard of the product. As a longtime fan of NUUN, I was used to the tube of tablets, enjoyed the hydration benefits and sugar-free formula, had established my favorite flavors (watermelon, tropical, and Kona Cola) but with a dwindling supply, I was game to add a new product to the mix – and after a month of trying out MeStrength, I have become a fan"
"I especially like that the product is vegan/ vegetarian!"
"Here’s a bit of info from an e-mail I was sent from MESTRENGTH:
MESTRENGTH is a drink mix powder that provides athletes with a balanced blend of electrolytes for complete hydration as well as 5 grams of creatine for muscle recovery (not for muscle bulk – at 5 grams creatine helps minimize lactic acid buildup, ultimately aiding in muscle recovery).
What’s truly different about MESTRENGTH products is that unlike most sports drinks, it does not contain any calories, sugar, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors, etc. The ingredient label is simple, straightforward and to the point – plus, the product is vegan, vegetarian and gluten free.
I tried most of the flavors I was sent (sorry guys, but no way I’m trying anything grape flavored!), and I really liked them! My favorite was the kiwi-strawberry, it was a nice subtle flavor, not too overpowering and I especially like that the product is vegan/ vegetarian!"
"If you are trying to eat/train "clean" this might be a good alternative to other sports drinks out there"
"MESTRENGTH has 5 different flavors to chose from. Grape, Strawberry-Kiwi, Orange, Lemon-Lime, and Fruit Punch. My favorite is Lemon-Lime. It reminds me of lemonade I used to make as a kid. A little tangy and not too sweet. I will say that some of the flavors are an acquired taste/a little tart (grape). I have a MAJOR sweet tooth so I tend to prefer my drinks to be on the sweeter side. So take that into consideration when I say these aren't on the sweet side. If you are a person who can't drink other sports drinks because they are to surgary or too sweet during a run, I highly recommend you give this a try. Or if you are trying to eat/train "clean" this might be a good alternative to other sports drinks out there. My tummy handled it perfectly fine as well. No issues there. Also, I do all my long runs on Saturday and then sometime on Sunday it hits me that I can't drink enough water. When I drink this mix after my long run on Saturdays, I don't have that crazy parched feeling on Sunday. "
"I started incorporating MESTRENGTH after speed work and long runs, and I have noticed less muscle soreness"
"Simply put, MESTRENGTH is a 0-calorie, 0-carb, and 0-sugar sports drink that has 5g of creatine in each packet. Similar to many sports drinks that come in a powder or tablet format, MESTRENGTH is easy to use on the go because you can mix it with water, shake, and drink.
Creatine? No sugar? I’ll admit – I was skeptical. Usually when I think of creatine, I think of Crossfit junkies – I know, I know, that’s a stereotype. After doing some of my own research, creatine – an amino acid – can increase the body’s ability to produce energy rapidly. It might be best used before or after HIIT and sprinting.
I started incorporating MESTRENGTH after speed work and long runs, and I have noticed less muscle soreness. Based on what I understand about creatine, it’s probably more effective before or after speed work than long runs, so I’ll continue to use it before harder sessions where I’m varying speed and effort."
"I did notice that after some longer runs, muscle recovery seemed to be better than normal"
"What's nice about MESTRENGTH is that it's packaged in single serving stick-packs that are easy to carry and mix with 20 ounces of water. I found I liked to toss it in a water bottle and then shake it up to mix it. I even threw a pack in my purse for when I was on the go, but wanted to rehydrate with something other than plain water (if you know me, you know I have trouble drinking enough water because I don't love the taste... I wish I was the kind of gal that drank 100 oz a day no problem, but I'm just not... I like flavor, dang it!)"
"I did notice that after some longer runs, muscle recovery seemed to be better than normal. However I didn't notice much difference from the shorter runs – this is probably because my muscles aren't working as hard/long, so generally I don't feel sore post maintenance runs. I really wish I had received this product prior to completing my first marathon – I feel that it would have been a better time to test the product out, as I think I would have been able to notice the recovery aspect better (my long runs these days aren't nearly as long as they were training for the Dopey Challenge, nor as frequent). If I get in to the Chicago Marathon, I'll continue to test out MESTRENGTH to see how it helps with the long long runs."
"After trying MESTRENGTH a couple times, I think I’m actually sold on it"
Another great product review that includes some of Tom's own research and personal story about his experiences with sports nutrition drinks in general.
"Have you ever looked at the label on a bottle of Gatorade? The second ingredient listed after water is sucrose syrup (aka sugar) and the third ingredient is high fructose corn syrup (sugar again). In Powerade the second ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. In Vitamin Water it’s fructose (more sugar)…. and the list goes on. You might as well drink a can of soda during your workouts because the nutritional value is roughly the same. And yeah I know that there are some low calorie and sugar free versions of these too, but they taste even worse than the regular versions and are still loaded with a bunch of other weird ingredients that have little to no nutritional value.
So I almost never drink any kind of sports drinks when I run. And when I first exchanged emails with Sam Potter, the CEO ofMESTRENGTH, he offered to send me some free samples, and I was a little bit skeptical about what I was actually going to be getting. I already knew that MESTRENGTH doesn’t contain any calories, carbohydrates, sugars, stimulants, artificial colors or artificial flavors because it says so right on their website….. but I wasn’t expecting it to taste as good as it did, I wasn’t expecting my stomach to feel perfectly fine after drinking it, but it did, and I definitely wasn’t expecting it to help me recover as easily as it did when I drank it after my workouts. I have to say that after trying MESTRENGTH a couple times, I think I’m actually sold on it."
"I really like this taste, nothing flat about it, and no crazy after taste"
"I am not going to lie, I had never heard of MESTRENGTH before I was given the opportunity to try through Bibrave. However I was excited when the box of assorted flavors arrived in my mailbox."
"I was most interested in how this would taste, wow, it was packed with a tart flavor. My first thought was it tasted like Kool-Aid without the sugar. I really like this taste, nothing flat about it, and no crazy after taste"
"I then shook up a bottle to take to the gym with the lemon-lime. I was hesitant with this one, as it’s usually the flavor of another brand on most race courses, and I am so over it. However this was quite good and refreshing, and kept me hydrated while pounding out the miles on the treadmill."

"The reason that my recovery has been so easy, well folks, I’m a fan!"
"I was sent a variety pack of MESTRENGTH to review a while ago & was so happy that I saved it for marathon time to review. I know they say to NEVER try anything new for the marathon. Well folks, I broke that rule & it worked out for me! Phew!"
"I drank it prior to the marathon on my way, in the car which was 60 minutes prior to running & again afterwards. I enjoyed the taste, was happy it doesn’t have sugar nor additives & if it’s really the reason or part of the reason that my recovery has been so easy, well folks, I’m a fan!"
"I felt re-hydated and not as thirsty"
"I drank the MeStrength after running/working out several days in a row. I liked the taste and found that I felt re-hydated and not as thirsty as usual. I found that the whole pack in a 16 oz water was too concentrated for me, so I mixed half per 16 oz and enjoyed it. All of the flavors are tasty. I think it comes down to preference. I like lemon lime and fruit punch the best. Fruit punch reminds me of Kool-Aid. Good memories there! To be honest, I normally just drink water, but during marathon training, I have been trying to pay attention to electrolytes and hydration. MeStrength fits the bill and adds creatine to boot. I am not sure I felt much impact of the creatine after trying it for 5 days, but certainly no harm either. All good!"
